Hope you heal up soon.Country music historian Charles Wolfe calls the August, 1927 Bristol Sessions the “big bang” of country music the week two of the most influential early country stars were born. That's one of those jobs you really have to keep your mind on. I also move the buffer over by the shop door so if the buffer grabs something it'll shoot it out the door rather than hit something in the shop. From that point on I've always worn a face mask. Fortunately the round part of the headlight ring hit me so it didn't cut me but I had a purple mouth for the next two weeks. Same as you, it happened so fast I never saw it coming, but when I realized what had just happened I shut the buffer off and headed for the shop bathroom while feeling my lip and looking for blood. ![]() The buffer grabbed the ring and it hit me in the lower lip. I had the same thing happen to me years ago buffing out those headlight rings for a `64 GTO, only I got lucky. ![]() It also usually hits something you'd rather not have it hit. One thing I've learned is whenever the buffer grabs a piece of stainless like that and sends it across the shop it's gonna take some skin with it. And lastly don't argue with the wife about going to the doctor cause she will just get your sister brother in law and mom to help drag you to the car. The face mask is a must every time no matter what your buffing. Use full protection every time not just leather gloves, which got the 2 middle fingers ripped off them when it happened. What I've learned here? I need to be more aware of what I'm doing and don't let my guard down because I've done this many times before without injury. Hopefully my full unclouded vision will return. Going to a eye doctor today to have it looked at. They wanted to do a CT scan but as I don't have ins that was out of the question. ![]() After Xrays and stitches I was told the my eye socket was fractured. After turning off the buffer and covering up the car I went in and cleaned up then laid on the recliner. When wife got home she made me go to the ER. By the time I picked myself up off the floor there was a large puddle of blood and I couldn't see out of my L eye. I was on my last of 4 stainless rings and it cought into the wheel then flew into my face so fast I never saw it coming. the wife was at work and my daughter was hid away in her room doing whatever 14 yrs old do up there. Due to the tropical storm camped out over my house it seemed like a good time to do it. Yesterday I decided to take apart the front of the car to detail all the workings of the hideaway head lights. Headlight rings flying off a buffing wheel 3600 RPMs can and will cause extrem injury and in my case possible blindness.
